FromSoftware explains the direction of Elden Ring Nightreign: 'We are not following trends'
FromSoftware took fans by surprise by announcing Elden Ring Nightreign, a multiplayer spin-off that introduces new roguelike and battle royale elements to the original game's universe. The revelation sparked debates, with many speculating that the studio was simply following popular industry trends.
However, in an interview with PC Gamer, director Junya Ishizaki stated that the game was not created to follow passing fads, but to offer a more dynamic and strategic multiplayer experience within the FromSoftware formula.
"The focus was to condense the experience: RPG elements, exploration, character building, and level progression. We wanted everything to culminate in boss battles, but in a more concentrated way."
For Ishizaki, the idea was always to expand on the essence of the original Elden Ring and not simply add popular mechanics for convenience:
"We didn't decide to follow trends, but identified elements that would work well within our session-based multiplayer proposal."
Although it does not yet have a release date, a network test for Elden Ring Nightreign is scheduled for this month, allowing players to experience the new multiplayer approach before the official release.
With a new format and a focus on competitiveness, will Elden Ring Nightreign be able to capture the magic of the original game? Do you think FromSoftware is heading in the right direction? Share your opinion!
