Former founder laments surprise closure of Tango Gameworks
The sudden closure of Tango Gameworks caught many by surprise, especially after the success of their latest release, the fun rhythm game Hi-Fi Rush. Founded by Shinji Mikami in 2010, after a career at Capcom and Platinum Games, the studio will be missed.
After several expressions of sadness from the industry, it was now Mikami's turn to speak out, expressing his sadness on social media: "Tango was closed. Sad," the founder briefly said on X.
Last year, Mikami left Tango Gameworks to open his own studio, Kamuy, where he intends to focus on smaller projects and move away from the survival horror genre.
Although he directed the first The Evil Within, Mikami trained new developers who took on the role of director in the studio's subsequent projects. After his departure, he stated that Tango was in good hands with the younger generation.
Recently, Hi-Fi Rush also arrived on the PlayStation 5. Rumors indicated its release for the Nintendo console, but with the studio's closure, it remains to be seen if this idea will come to fruition.
