Forever Skies attempts to regain ground after criticisms on launch

After leaving early access in April 2025, the survival game Forever Skies, developed by Far From Home, faced a lukewarm reception on Steam, marked by criticism of technical issues, tiresome mechanics, and repetitive environments. Now, the Polish studio is trying to react with a plan for continuous updates to regain the community's interest.

The team posted a statement on the official blog acknowledging the audience's discontent. "We recognize that a significant part of our player base was disappointed with the game. We are listening and analyzing every feedback. We do not intend to abandon Forever Skies, that goes against our studio's principles," the studio states.

Despite the negative response, Forever Skies is still regarded by part of the community as a promising game. With a proposal that mixes elements from Fallout and Subnautica, the game is set on an Earth devastated by ecological disasters, where the player must explore urban ruins aboard a technological airship while managing resources and surviving with other players in cooperative mode.

According to Far From Home, four major issues were identified based on community analysis and feedback:

  • Technical failures that block progression and compromise immersion
  • General performance issues
  • Repetitive environments that reduce the sense of discovery
  • Tedious mechanics, with little depth or engagement

The first practical response to the problem came with Patch 1.0.2, which although does not directly address the main points raised by players, fixes various minor bugs and balance adjustments. According to the developers, "these fixes are the basis for larger and more structural updates to come."

The plan, according to the studio, is to release updates frequently, prioritizing the most critical issues and adapting development based on constant feedback. "Some updates will come out faster, while others will require more time and testing. We ask for patience to do things right," the statement says.

Previous cases like No Man's Sky (Hello Games) and Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red) have shown that it is possible to rebuild a game's reputation after a troubled launch, but the effort requires consistency, transparency, and, above all, technical deliverables that justify the players' return.

Forever Skies was one of the most anticipated survival genre titles for 2025 and, even with the initial disappointment, still carries the potential to become relevant — if Far From Home can fulfill its recovery plan.
