Filming of the God of War Series on Amazon Should Only Begin in 2026
Fans of the acclaimed God of War franchise will have to exercise patience. The adaptation of the saga into a live-action series by Amazon is in development, but filming is not expected to begin before 2026, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore.
In an interview with Collider, Moore explained that the production is still in the script phase, but progress is positive. "It's going very well. We have a strong team. It's fascinating to dive into this universe. I had never adapted a video game before, and the more I delved into it, the more impressed I was with the depth and scope of the mythology involved," he said.
Despite the enthusiasm, the writer emphasized the importance of dedicating the necessary time to ensure that the first season is solid before moving on to the next steps, indicating that the series is still far from entering production.
Collaboration and Creative Adaptation
Moore revealed that he has been meeting with Cory Barlog, director of God of War (2018), whom he called a "genius." However, he made it clear that the adaptation will have its own creative decisions. "It's an adaptation, so it also involves a certain interpretation when bringing it to live-action," he explained.
Amazon has already commissioned two seasons of the series, which will focus on the Norse phase of the franchise, exploring the complex relationship between Kratos and Atreus.
With the God of War series focusing on the relationship between Kratos and Atreus in the Norse phase, do you believe that the adaptation into live-action will be able to capture the emotional depth and epic action of the games, even with the inevitable creative interpretations?
