FIFA 23 Collaborates with Marvel for FUT Heroes in Ultimate Team
Comic book card art incoming.
For the longest time, one of our biggest criticisms of FIFA Ultimate Team – aside from the obvious – has been the crappy card art. Compare to games like NBA 2K22 and MLB The Show 22 and EA Sports’ soccer sims have some of the worst looking collectible cards on the market. At least with FIFA 23, it’s aiming to rectify that – by collaborating with, well, Marvel.
The publisher is bringing on board a selection of comic book artists to create a new series of FUT Heroes. These will be inspired by legendary players, and will initially reflect an iconic club moment. Then, later in the year, each player will receive a new card: a FUT World Cup Hero. This will immortalise one of their iconic moments on the biggest international stage, and provide a stats boost, too.
If you pre-order the soccer sim’s Ultimate Edition by 21st August, you’ll get one of these FUT World Cup Heroes from 11th November – free of charge. Keep in mind, however, that the player you receive will be untradeable. “The collaboration will include other vanity items related to the fan favourite heroes being immortalized as Marvel inspired Heroes, including tifos, kits, balls, and more,” a press release explains.
So far, the FUT Heroes announced are as follows:
- Landon Donovan
- Ricardo Carvalho
- Claudio Marchisio
- Yaya Toure
- Park Ji-Sung
More will be announced in the weeks leading up to launch. We’re assuming these are going to be incredibly rare, and likely cost a fortune from the in-game transfer market. It’s nice to see some more interesting card art for once, though – hopefully the publisher has similarly interesting promos lined up for the remainder of the season.
