Fatal Fury returns with a new REV system and unique RPG mode

After 26 years of waiting, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves will be released on April 24, 2025, bringing technical innovation and fidelity to the classic essence of the franchise. Available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the game from SNK arrives with 17 playable characters, including Rock Howard, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, and Kain R. Heinlein, as well as five additional fighters in the first season, such as Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and even Chun-Li, in collaboration with Street Fighter.

The main novelty is the REV system, which introduces layers of tactical depth to the gameplay. The feature allows for special moves like REV Strike, REV Dash, and REV Arts, but requires balance: overloading the bar brings penalties to the player. This system adds to classic mechanics like S.P.G, feint, and multiple types of jumps and defense.

"REV is a new set of skills that offers unique offensive options at the beginning of the fight," explained SNK in a statement.

The game also includes two control schemes: the Practical style, with simplified commands, and the traditional Arcade, aimed at genre veterans. This duality aims to attract both beginners and long-time fans.

One of the highlights is the Episodes of South Town mode, which adopts an RPG structure with conditional fights, EXP gain, item unlocking, and levels. With each new attempt, decisions impact the course of the narrative, offering dynamic and replayable gameplay.

In the story, the plot of Rock Howard gains focus by exploring the absence of his mother, deepening the connection between him and Terry Bogard and reinforcing internal conflicts with the legacy of Geese Howard.

The game also includes aesthetic customization options such as costume colors and a jukebox mode with franchise soundtracks.

FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves picks up the story directly from Mark of the Wolves and promises to revitalize the fighting game genre with a balance between technique, accessibility, and rich narrative.
