Fallout 4 increases number of players after new season

The release of the second season of Fallout on Amazon Prime Video, which occurred on December 16, 2025, boosted the franchise's activity levels on Steam. According to SteamDB data, Fallout 4 jumped from an average of 20,000 to over 40,000 simultaneous players.

Fallout: New Vegas also recorded technical growth, going from 8,000 users to almost 20,000 last weekend. The mobile title Fallout Shelter followed the trend after receiving an update with characters from the series, while Fallout 3 and the original Bethesda game showed an increase in their player bases.

The series' ability to revitalize old software is a relevant positive point for the industry. In May 2024, after the first season, the franchise occupied the Top 10 on all platforms in the USA. In Europe, Fallout 4 reached the top of sales, with a 7,500% growth in just one week.

Amazon has already confirmed the production of a third season for the work, which reached 65 million viewers in its first two weeks in 2024. The use of aggressive discounts as a tie-in strategy has proven effective in converting TV audiences into active game users.

However, the dependence on external media to sustain engagement is subject to severe criticism. It is regrettable that Bethesda and Microsoft need productions from Amazon to pull titles from 2015 out of technical stagnation, highlighting the lack of new major releases in the franchise.

Sensor Tower data indicates that daily activity in Fallout 3 and 4 rose by 225% shortly after the premieres, but this interest tends to be volatile. The absence of a new main chapter developed natively for current consoles in 2026 limits the retention potential of these thousands of new players.
