If you thought Everwild, the promising and enigmatic game from Rare, had been forgotten, Phil Spencer has good news. The head of Xbox confirmed that the title is still in production and ensured that the team is being given all the time necessary to create the desired experience.

The last time we heard about Everwild was in 2020, when Rare released a stylish cinematic trailer, but without revealing much about its gameplay. Since then, the game has practically disappeared, raising doubts about its future. Now, Spencer reaffirms that development is ongoing and the team is making progress.

Rare has the freedom to create

During an interview, Phil Spencer explained that he recently visited Rare and saw firsthand the work being done on the game.

"I was recently at Rare. It's good to see the Everwild team and the progress they are making," said the executive when asked about the most anticipated first-party games from Xbox.

Spencer also emphasized that Microsoft is giving enough time for the studio to refine the project.

"It's been a while. And we've been able to give these teams time for what they are doing, which is good, and still maintain a strong portfolio. That has always been a dream that Matt [Booty] and I had, so it's great to finally be able to do it. We can give time to the teams."

Rare, known for classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Sea of Thieves, has always been a studio that focuses on striking visual identities and innovative mechanics. However, the lack of concrete information about Everwild leaves many fans wondering: what will this game be, after all?

What do we know about Everwild so far?

The game was first revealed at the end of 2019, with a cinematic trailer showcasing a vibrant world and mystical creatures. In 2020, a new video was released, maintaining the mysterious tone, but without gameplay details.

Behind the scenes, reports indicate that the game underwent drastic changes. In 2021, rumors emerged that Rare restarted development, supposedly to redefine its core mechanics. Rare has always described Everwild as a game that explores players' connection with nature, but without clear details on how this will translate in practice.

There is still no concrete release date, and Rare remains discreet about the game's progress. However, the fact that Phil Spencer mentioned Everwild as one of the titles he is most looking forward to suggests that news may be on the horizon.

The question now is: when will Rare finally show something concrete? With events like the Xbox Showcase 2025 approaching, fans hope that Everwild will emerge from the shadows and show what it's made of. Until then, all we can do is hope that the extra development time results in something truly special.
