Eternights registers 9 million redemptions on the Epic Games Store
The studio responsible for Eternights has confirmed that over 9 million users acquired the title for free on January 2, 2026. The offer was part of the end-of-year campaign by the Epic Games Store, resulting in an unprecedented volume of accesses for the Action RPG originally launched in 2023. Through social media, the game's creator expressed surprise at the technical reach of the promotion. "This is unbelievable, honestly... I am amazed. Over 9 million players obtained Eternights as part of the Epic Games Free Day," declared the developer, who has been working on a new project since the release of the first title.
Technically, the massive adoption is a positive point for the visibility of the niche genre that mixes action and romance with anime aesthetics. On Steam, the game completion rate is 32%, a considerable value for independent productions. The creator expressed the desire for the new Epic Games players to maintain this level of engagement: "I hope that everyone who joined will stay until the end of the experience." Maintaining an active base after a free distribution is crucial for the viability of sequels or new titles from the studio.
On the other hand, the dependence on donations on digital platforms to achieve significant numbers is subject to criticism. It is regrettable that a game needs to be offered at no cost for the general public to show interest in its proposal, which is heavily based on clichés and innuendos. This distribution model, although it inflates user statistics, does not always translate into direct financial return or a loyal long-term community. Furthermore, the excessive focus on superficial romance elements may have limited the potential of Eternights as a technically heavy Action RPG since its initial release.
