Error prevents users of Switch 2 from playing Mario Kart World

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which took place on June 5, 2025, was accompanied by a technical issue that directly affected the main debut title of the new Nintendo generation: Mario Kart World. Users who purchased the console and tried to access the game immediately at launch encountered error code 2813-0171, preventing the application from starting even after complete download.

The issue occurs because the game, despite being pre-installed on some units and already having patches available, has not yet been officially marked as "released" on all Nintendo systems, which prevents authentication and registration of the software on players' accounts. The technical error appears with the following official description:

"When attempting to register pre-installed software to a Nintendo Account, error code 2813-0171 is displayed."

Nintendo acknowledges that the problem is related to the release status of the application and states that:

"This error code indicates that the pre-installed software has not yet been officially released and therefore cannot be registered."

The company's recommendation, for now, is limited to a passive response: waiting for the game to be released on Nintendo's servers. There is currently no official forecast for the situation to normalize, and no additional statements have been issued by company representatives.

The title Mario Kart World is a strategic release for the Nintendo Switch 2, with expectations of boosting console sales in the second half. The Mario Kart franchise is one of the most profitable for the company, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from the original Switch surpassing 60 million units sold by 2024, becoming the best-selling game in Nintendo's history.

Such errors on Day One create significant frustration among consumers, especially those who pre-ordered the console and expected a smooth transition to the new generation. The lack of an immediate solution and reliance on a release from the company raises questions about the technical readiness for this type of large-scale launch.

Although the impact of the error has not yet been quantified, its visibility may compromise public perception in the short term and should serve as a warning to Nintendo in managing simultaneous releases of hardware and software.
