The news now is that the company had some of its executive employees arrested for money laundering. According to Bloomberg Law and the Chinese website Leifeng (via Insider Gaming), the arrest involved nine employees of the studio, including the general manager of NetEase, Xiang Lang, and the publishing chief, Jin Yuchen. Both are no longer with the company.
The arrests apparently resulted from an internal action by NetEase. The location of the weekly marketing meeting, normally held in Guangzhou, was changed to Hangzhou. When Xiang Liang and other suspects arrived, they were detained.
According to reports, the amount allegedly laundered is estimated to be between US$ 111 million and US$ 140 million.
