Elon Musk tries to play Path of Exile 2 live, but abandons the broadcast after a avalanche of insults

Not even the world's most famous billionaire escaped the wrath of the gaming community. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), recently decided to venture into the universe of Path of Exile 2 — but his attempt to interact with players turned into a live disaster. The livestream, which was supposed to be a moment to test the Starlink technology in mid-flight on a private jet, quickly became a stage for harsh criticism and personal attacks.

The initial proposal seemed daring: Musk wanted to demonstrate the efficiency of Starlink's satellite internet while playing Path of Exile 2 directly from the air. The game by Grinding Gear Games, currently in early access and available for PC via Steam, was Musk's chosen technical endeavor. However, what could have been a demonstration of innovation and entertainment turned into a digital storm.

Shortly after starting the livestream, the chat was flooded with aggressive and personal comments. Phrases like "you ruined a country like you ruined your marriages" and "you have no friends and will die alone" were just some of the highlighted messages. Visibly flustered, Musk began to lose focus on the gameplay — his character died repeatedly as he tried to process what he was reading.

The broadcast, which lasted just over 20 minutes, ended abruptly. Musk did not return to offer any official explanation, but his sudden and silent exit made it clear: the attacks managed to get under his skin. And, of course, this only fueled more social media buzz.

It is important to remember that Path of Exile 2 is an ambitious sequel to the acclaimed ARPG by Grinding Gear Games, with revised mechanics, revamped combat system, and updated graphics. Recently, the game has faced controversies regarding the slow pace of the campaign and class balancing — leading directors Jonathan Rogers and Mark Roberts to admit to "glaring mistakes" and announce a series of adjustments in response to community feedback.

Musk, who had previously made other appearances in the gaming world — including occasional streams and comments on titles like Diablo IV, Cyberpunk 2077, and Overwatch —, this time did not find a receptive audience. While many expected the livestream to focus on the performance of Starlink, the focus shifted completely in the face of the chat's hostile tone.

If there was any intention to repeat the experience or build a bridge with the gaming audience, it was probably burned in flames of fury and sarcasm. And the episode leaves a clear lesson: not even billionaires are immune to the consequences of their actions and the unpredictable response of online communities. In the world of games — and especially in ARPGs like Path of Exile 2 — the true challenge may not be on the battlefield, but in the live chat.
