Elden Ring surpasses 30 million copies sold on the eve of its arrival on Switch 2
More than three years after its initial release, Elden Ring has reached the milestone of 30 million units sold worldwide, according to an announcement made today (April 28, 2025) by FromSoftware. The information was shared on the game's official profile on X/Twitter, thanking the players:
“Dearest Tarnished, we are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion. May your path be forever guided by the Grace of Gold.”
The number corresponds to copies shipped, as clarified by the Japanese profile of FromSoftware, and reinforces the impressive journey of the title since its release on February 25, 2022. This milestone gains even more weight when compared to the Dark Souls franchise. According to the Bandai Namco 2024 fact book, the trilogy totaled 37 million units sold outside Japan until March 2024, revealing that Elden Ring, alone, is already rivalling the success of the entire series.
It is worth noting that the total sales number of Dark Souls may be even higher, considering that the report excludes domestic sales made directly by FromSoftware, Inc., and is outdated by over a year. In other words, there is still a significant portion of data not officially accounted for.
With Elden Ring also being one of the main titles planned for the Switch 2, the number of copies is expected to continue growing. The release on the new Nintendo console, scheduled for the end of 2025, may attract a new wave of players who have not yet explored the Lands Between or faced bosses like Radahn and Malenia. The expectation is that the portable experience, especially for those without a Steam Deck, will further boost the popularity of the action RPG.
FromSoftware continues to establish Elden Ring as one of the most impactful games of the decade, with results that reflect the critical and public success seen since its victory as Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022.
