Elden Ring on Switch 2 will bring new classes and exclusive visuals

The Tarnished Edition version of Elden Ring, announced by FromSoftware in April, will be released later this year for the Nintendo Switch 2, accompanied by news that go beyond just adapting the game to the new hardware. Among the additions are two new playable classes, new looks for the horse, as well as new items — and, despite the initial focus on the new Nintendo platform, the content will also be available on other platforms.

The new classes, recently revealed, are named “Knight of Ides” and “Heavy Knight”, both included in the Tarnished Edition package. Detailed descriptions of each class have not been released yet, but it is expected that they will bring significant variations in gameplay style — something relevant within the open-world RPG's build system, which already offers extensive customization and combat diversity.

Importantly: the additional content will not be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. FromSoftware clarified that players on other platforms, such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will have access to the same content through the Tarnished Pack. It is not yet confirmed whether this pack will be free or will require an additional payment.

In addition to the new classes, the edition will also include three alternative looks for the horse, as well as four new armor sets, new weapons, and new combat techniques. All features will be available alongside the base game and the expansion Shadow of the Erdtree, which will be integrated into the Tarnished Edition.

“The Tarnished Edition brings all the content of Elden Ring, including Shadow of the Erdtree, with specific technical adjustments for the new Nintendo hardware,” FromSoftware stated in an official note.

The arrival of Elden Ring on the Switch 2 marks an important move, considering the technical limitations of the previous generation of Nintendo console, where the game was never released. With this, the new version of the platform is expected to demonstrate greater capacity for large-scale and open-world titles.

Since its original release in February 2022, Elden Ring has already surpassed 25 million copies sold and has established itself as one of the biggest successes in FromSoftware history, winning awards such as Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022. Now, the arrival on Switch 2 further expands its reach — with new content that fortunately will not be limited to just one platform.
