Elden Ring Has Sold a Staggering 12 Million Copies Worldwide Since Launch

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have announced the sales figures so far for Elden Ring, and we can probably now officially call it a hit. The open world action RPG has sold in excess of 12 million copies worldwide since launch, as of 14th March.

The sales figure is made public in a new press release. The document also states that 1 million of those sales were made in Japan, the one region where developer FromSoftware self-published the game. It's also worth noting the figure includes both physical and digital sales, but we're not told what the split is. Anyway, while not officially mentioned, we can safely assume this is the company's best-selling, and certainly fastest-selling, game to date.

"It's astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring," says director Hidetaka Miyazaki. "We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats. Thank you for your continued support."

Bandai Namco, which published the game everywhere but Japan, is similarly pleased with this news. President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa wishes to "give my thanks to all our fans who have brought [Elden Ring] into their gaming life", and says he's "very proud" to have been involved.

On top of the impressive sales, the press release makes mention of a desire to expand the game's world beyond, well, the game. It sounds as though we'll be seeing more from Elden Ring, and we could see that manifest in other media, which is pretty exciting. A George R. R. Martin novelisation, perhaps?
