EA Games may move the release of Battlefield due to GTA VI
There is nothing that doesn't change the releases of a company, not even a game from Rockstar Games. The company has incredible titles and every time they make a game, everyone stops to analyze and see how beautiful it has become in our hands.
This time it is happening again and the entire gaming industry is taking seriously the release of GTA VI, which will surely be one of the biggest events in the industry.
One of the companies that seems to be rethinking one of its releases for this year is EA Games, which recently announced its new testing environment for Battlefield, which now has several developers focusing on making the FPS even bigger.
The game is sure to come out this year, and this could become a problem if EA Games chooses the wrong date to release the game.
It has been a few years since the last new PC game under the banner, with Battlefield 2042 coming out in 2021. So, the revelation of another iteration in the FPS series nearing completion was not so surprising. EA Games has kept details limited, but the plan is to release the next Battlefield in the fiscal year 2026.
Comments from the president and CEO of EA Games, Andrew Wilson, in a results teleconference suggest that the company is prepared to change, if necessary. “There may be some things going on in the year that may cause us to think differently about our release schedule. We have a release window for fiscal year 26 that the team is targeting,” he said. “But if we get close to that deadline and believe that this would not be a great window for us, then we would look at what could be an alternative window.”
Delays and changes for upcoming PC games can happen for all kinds of reasons, but "some things happening" sounds like Wilson may have some specific things in mind. The release window for GTA 6 is currently set for the second half of 2025. If that remains, it would be wise for any other major releases to give themselves space to get out of the way, because the next open-world game from Rockstar Games attracts all the attention.
April 2026 gives the developers behind this new Battlefield some leeway. As a major multiplayer game, it is a project that will want as much space as possible on the calendar to attract and retain players. Battlefield 2042 was not exactly the most well-received game, so this next one will aim to regain some goodwill. Wilson adds that this is the biggest investment EA Games has made in a Battlefield entry so far.
For now, we don't have much information about these 2 games, and of course, later in the year, we will surely have more information about the new Call of Duty, which in a way, should compete against Battlefield next year.
And we know that Call of Duty remains one of the best-selling games in recent years, losing sometimes only to games from Rockstar Games, which makes things interesting.
