Doom: The Dark Ages is called by id Software the "best DOOM of all time"

The franchise DOOM is already a true icon in the history of video games, synonymous with frenetic combat, stylized violence, and explosive soundtracks. But, according to id Software itself, what we have seen so far can be surpassed: DOOM: The Dark Ages, scheduled for release on May 15, 2025, promises to be the pinnacle of the series.

In a recent post on the official PlayStation blog, Hugo Martin, creative director of the project, was categorical in stating: "We believe that DOOM: The Dark Ages is the best DOOM we have ever made". Martin also mentioned that, although it is hard to believe that the release is so close, the confidence in the quality of the new title is absolute.

Described as a "premium singleplayer campaign", the new DOOM is based on three fundamental pillars: story, combat, and exploration. According to Martin, no detail was overlooked. "We gave it our all, no feature was left unpolished", he added. The game will feature 22 levels full of brutal action, new insane weapons like the aforementioned Shield Saw, as well as surprises aimed at redefining the FPS genre.

Among the innovations, DOOM: The Dark Ages bets on a dark medieval tone, a bold contrast to the traditional hellish and technological settings of the series. Weapons inspired by medieval armaments, more strategic combat, and deep exploration sections are expected to bring a new dynamic to the formula established in DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal.

The id Software, responsible for revolutionizing shooters since 1993, seems to be putting all its chips on this release. It is worth noting that both DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal were widely acclaimed, raising the standard for action games and establishing a demanding fan base.

With very high expectations, it is up to the players to decide, starting on May 15, whether The Dark Ages will really surpass its predecessors and go down in history as the new pinnacle of the saga.
