Doom: The Dark Ages arrives in May!

We just had another Direct_Developer, the broadcast from Microsoft /Xbox to show what their partners are doing, which naturally does not create as much hype, since some of the games mentioned have already been announced at some point, so part of all this is revealing release dates.

The highlight is definitely the release date of Doom: The Dark Ages which will arrive on Xbox consoles on May 15th of this year, so if you were excited like me, to be able to test that skull-shooting weapon, now you have a reason to be anxious and counting the days.

Some important points were taken into consideration this time, and innovation was so ahead of priorities, that the game will arrive without a multiplayer mode, however, with various ways to get into hell and get out of it in great style!

Trailer:

“We wanted to go all-in on the campaign,” explained Martin, when asked why this game would be released without a multiplayer element, when both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal had one. “We were able to elevate the single-player element [of Dark Ages] because that has been our entire focus.”

The game will not just have you standing and holding your position as the almost immortal Doom Slayer this time. As a direct result of committing more resources to single-player development, we will have scenarios involving "a 30-story Atlan mech" and "a fire-spitting, machine gun-wielding cybernetic dragon." Yes, seriously.

“This is something we wanted to do for ages, in the last two games, actually,” explains Stratton, specifically referring to the inclusion of the Atlan. In case you're not completely up to date on your Doom lore (who can blame you), the Atlans were huge bipedal war machines used by the Night Sentinels in their war against the forces of Hell - you probably saw their lifeless husks in your previous Doom game plays.

Both Stratton and Martin seemed very excited about the revelation - and inclusion - of the mecha in Doom: The Dark Ages, and suggest that finally having the Slayer pilot one of these Evangelion-sized beasts is a direct result of allowing more development time on the game's single-player elements.

Related, the duo also boasts that this is the “largest play space ever seen in a Doom game”, and showed a variety of bonus dungeons, caves, and battles you can engage in if you stray from the beaten path. “You control the pace of the game”, smiled Martin. “You control where you go, who you fight, and the objectives you pursue.” Once again, the developers cite the ability to fully focus on the single-player aspect of the game as the reason why id was able to inject so much content into the story and world.
