Don't Starve Together Receives Hostile Takeover Update
Don't Starve Together, the multiplayer spin-off of the classic survival game Don't Starve, developed by Klei, has just received a new free update titled Hostile Takeover. Released today, Thursday, June 12th, the patch adds a new boss, completes a long line of quests, and improves the experience with controls.
The original game, Don't Starve, released 12 years ago, is considered a pioneer in the survival genre, influencing titles like The Forest, The Long Dark, and Project Zomboid. Its multiplayer version, Don't Starve Together, released eight years ago, is even more popular, boasting a 95% positivity rate based on over 340,000 reviews and a daily peak of 50 to 60 thousand simultaneous players.
The world of Don't Starve Together is characterized by procedurally generated environments that are both hostile and varied, including deep caves, ice blocks, vast deserts, and fertile islands. Gameplay requires players to defeat monsters, collect resources, and build shelters and facilities.
The Hostile Takeover update introduces new skins and a modification to combat, allowing the electrocution status to affect multiple enemies. The Wandering Trader, which was tested in previous builds, is now a permanent part of Don't Starve Together, appearing randomly on the map to allow the exchange of resources and equipment. The Wandering Trader's inventory will be updated every two days in the game, offering new items.
The extensive lunar questline, which guided players throughout the Don't Starve Together map, reaches its conclusion in Hostile Takeover. The update also includes a new boss. Additionally, Klei has added various control schemes, offering different presets for players. It is important to remember that when purchasing Don't Starve Together on Steam, the buyer receives a second free copy to gift to a friend.
