Director of Shōgun joins Amazon's adaptation of God of War
Amazon Prime Video took an important step in the pre-production of the live-action adaptation of God of War, announcing the hiring of award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys) to direct the first two episodes of the series. The adaptation is a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, and is currently in pre-production in Canada, including the search for actors who will bring the characters, like Kratos, to life.
The God of War series was approved at the end of 2022 and had two seasons ordered, but the project went months without updates on progress or schedule.
The production involves the support of PlayStation Productions, with influential names assisting in the adaptation of the beloved series to the new format. Cory Barlog, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Hermen Hulst are involved in the production team.
After the conclusion of pre-production, which includes defining the cast, the God of War series from Prime Video may enter production in 2026. This suggests that the premiere will likely occur only at the end of 2027 or even in 2028.
