Director of Larian Studios Says that 60 Hours in Baldur's Gate 3 Is "Average"
For the most fervent players of Baldur's Gate 3, spending hundreds or even thousands of hours in the acclaimed RPG inspired by Dungeons & Dragons is a delight. However, Michael "Cromwelp" Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, revealed that the majority of players on PC (via Steam) barely reach the 100-hour mark. The average playtime is 62 hours and 55 minutes, which, according to Douse, means that those playing over 60 hours are just "scraping average".
The statistic is surprising, especially considering that, according to the website HowLongToBeat, the main campaign of Baldur's Gate 3 takes around 72 hours to complete. Combining the main story with side quests, the time goes up to 114 hours, and for those seeking 100% completion of the game, at least 174 hours are necessary. This suggests that most players do not reach the end of Act 3.
For players with hundreds or thousands of hours of gameplay - like the original article author, with almost 2,000 hours - this revelation is intriguing. Many admit, however, that they also have numerous "saves" that were interrupted before the end of the journey, often due to the irresistible temptation of creating a new character and exploring other narrative options.
Despite the overall average, the Baldur's Gate 3 community is full of dedicated fans who accumulate hundreds and even thousands of hours in the game. Comments on online posts show proud players displaying their over 3,000 or 1,000 hours of gameplay, reinforcing the passion and engagement with the D&D universe created by Larian.
While fans eagerly await a Baldur's Gate 4, Hasbro, the license holder, has already indicated that they are "talking to many partners" about developing a sequel. Until then, the community will continue to explore the numerous possibilities of Baldur's Gate 3, customizing new "Tavs" and ensuring that the city of Baldur's Gate does not go up in flames.
If the average playtime in Baldur's Gate 3 is "only" 62 hours, what do you believe prevents most players from completing the main story or delving even deeper into this vast RPG?
