The highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is getting closer, and along with it, some exciting — yet concerning — news has just arrived for fans of cutting-edge technology. The CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077, one of the main launch titles for the new console, will utilize DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) from Nvidia in its adaptation for the handheld device.

The confirmation came through a statement from the developer itself:

"We are using a version of DLSS available for the hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2, powered by Nvidia Tensor cores," stated CD Projekt RED. "The game uses DLSS in all four modes: handheld and docked, in both performance and quality variations."

With this, Cyberpunk 2077 becomes the first confirmed title in the Switch 2 lineup to use Nvidia's popular technology to enhance performance and visual quality. The news sounds exciting, but hides some technical details that more attentive players should not ignore.

In dock mode, you will be able to choose between two options:

  • Quality Mode: 30 FPS at 1080p with DLSS enabled and dynamic resolution
  • Performance Mode: 40 FPS at 1080p with DLSS and dynamic resolution as well
  • In handheld mode, the options follow the same philosophy:
  • Quality Mode: 30 FPS at 1080p (DLSS)
  • Performance Mode: 40 FPS at 720p, taking advantage of the Switch 2's 120Hz screen

However, according to an analysis by Digital Foundry, the dynamic resolutions can lead to quite significant drops. In docked mode, the resolution can drop from 1080p to 540p, while in handheld mode, it can drop to as low as 360p in moments of high graphical demand. In other words, despite the help of DLSS, the game will still require considerable compromises to run on Nintendo's new hardware.

It's worth noting that the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2 marks a new phase for the console, promising experiences much closer to those of larger platforms. Nevertheless, the need for technical sacrifices raises a warning about the limitations that may impact more demanding titles.

The official release of Cyberpunk 2077 for the Nintendo Switch 2 will take place on the same day as the console's arrival in stores, June 5, 2025.

Now the question remains: how much will DLSS be able to mask these resolution drops and keep Night City as stunning as we hope? We will find out very soon.
