Cronos: The New Dawn reveals intense and bizarre gameplay
After impressing fans with the remake of Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team is back — and now they want to take horror to a new level with Cronos: The New Dawn, their latest original project. The game, which mixes science fiction and horror in equally brutal doses, had its first gameplay revealed and is already being compared by many to modern classics like Dead Space.
This time, the narrative revolves around a mysterious character known only as Traveler, whose mission is to travel back in time to the 1980s — a period in which a devastating apocalypse practically wiped out humanity. It is up to the player to rescue key people from the past to prevent the total extinction of the human race.
But the danger is not just chronological. Unlike James Sunderland, the introspective and almost defenseless protagonist of Silent Hill 2, Traveler is highly armed. However, what you face in Cronos is far from simple. The enemies are the Orphans, grotesque creatures composed of human flesh and mutant appearance. The trailer warns: "don't let the Orphans merge". When that happens, the player's firepower may not be enough to take down the resulting abomination.
Cronos: The New Dawn brings a more aggressive approach to the genre, mixing intense combat, decaying scenarios, time manipulation, and choices that can alter the very timeline. The central mechanic revolves around time travel, exploration of abandoned areas, and melee and ranged combat with different weapons. The game promises to combine the oppressive atmosphere of horror with a more visceral action pace.
The title is set to arrive still in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, although an exact release date has not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Bloober Team seems to be busy with several projects. In addition to Cronos, the Polish studio is developing an adaptation of the acclaimed comic book from Skybound Entertainment, I Hate This Place — still without a premiere date. And in a move that shook up the beginning of 2025, Bloober signed a new contract with Konami, indicating that another heavyweight project is on the way, although it has not been officially revealed.
The unveiling of Cronos: The New Dawn reinforces Bloober Team's creative moment, which has been alternating between revered remakes and original bets in horror. And for those who were expecting more scares, more blood, and more insane stories based on the fragility of the human mind — now with a touch of temporal paradox — the wait is about to be worth it.
