Microsoft  continues with strategic changes after acquiring Activision Blizzard, promoting Craig Duncan, a veteran with 14 years of leadership at Rare, as the new head of Xbox Game Studios. He takes over the position after the retirement announcement of Alan Hartman, who leaves an unparalleled legacy at Turn 10 Studios.

With a career that includes renowned studios such as Sumo Digital, Midway, and Codemasters, Duncan stood out by driving Rare forward over the last decade, leading to the release of hits like Sea of Thieves. Now, his mission is to continue strengthening the Xbox brand with gaming experiences that captivate new players and develop new franchises, according to Matt Booty, Microsoft's head of gaming content and studios.

On his own journey, Hartman contributed to the foundation of Turn 10 and, with it, turned Forza into one of the most respected racing franchises globally. Booty praised Hartman's dedication to Microsoft since 1988, when he started at a time when CD-ROM was still in its infancy. “Alan was synonymous with innovation and passion for games,” said Booty, mentioning that Hartman's contribution in creating Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon redefined the racing franchise.

Now in charge of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan will be responsible for overseeing all Xbox studios, including the investment in new intellectual properties. His promotion marks a new phase for Rare: Joe Neate and Jim Hoth, who already served as executive producer and studio director, respectively, will take over operations in Duncan's place.

This new chapter for Xbox Game Studios promises to intensify the focus on innovation and unique gaming experiences, keeping the gaming community excited for what comes next.
