Company that brought accessories for the Switch 2 to CES begins to explain...
The CES of 2025 certainly brought some news, but what nobody expected is that a company would bring a mockup of the Nintendo Switch 2, to showcase its accessories.
Clearly this would be a big deal, since it wasn't Nintendo itself presenting the Mockup, so, Genki, the company that made it, gave some details on how they came up with that product!
In an interview with the Japanese outlet Game*Spark (highlighted and translated by Automaton), a representative of Genki reportedly admitted that the cover accessory for the Switch 2 that the company had on display (not the mock-up) was created based on leaks, and its size is not final.
Furthermore, the interviewee apparently mentioned that they had not seen the actual console. This seriously questions the legitimacy of viral mock-ups - how could the company shape them from the real console, but apparently had to create a cover for it based on leaks?
Nintendo also finally stepped in to address the situation, although they have not yet revealed the actual console.
The company issued a statement to the Japanese outlet Sankei Shimbun (translated by Automaton) saying that the images and videos that emerged from CES 2025 "are not official". To be fair, this is not a shock - it was always clear that Genki was presenting mock-ups instead of real hardware - but in case there was any doubt, Nintendo also reiterated to CNET that the "gaming hardware that Genki presented as Nintendo hardware at CES is not official and was not provided to the company by us".
Of course, this may end up being a cold shower for those who are eager to see the Nintendo Switch 2, but it's worth remembering that, even though it's a mockup, it's still based on leaks. Therefore, Nintendo's statement does not imply that the product would be completely different.
Unfortunately, only time, and Nintendo, will tell us that!
