Charlie Cox Promises to Play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The actor Charlie Cox, known for his roles in Daredevil and Stardust, promised to finally play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the acclaimed RPG in which he voices the character Gustave. Despite spending only four hours in the recording studio and admitting to knowing very little about the full game, Cox stated that he needs a console to experience the title, the first one since Super Mario 64.
Charlie Cox (Daredevil) promises to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, his first game since Super Mario 64, after receiving praise for his work.
The "Fraud" and the Game's Success
During a question and answer session at GalaxyCon in New Orleans, Cox expressed his amazement at the advancement of graphics in games. "I remember being in the studio and thinking, 'this is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary,'" said the actor. "They have come a long way since Mario 64, which is probably the last computer game I played."
Cox had previously revealed that he recorded most of his lines in a single four-hour session and felt like "a total fraud" because of the recognition he was receiving. He reiterated this feeling at GalaxyCon when he felt confused by a fan's question, due to his lack of familiarity with the game. "I want to play the game," he stated. "I need to play the game. First I need a console and then I need to play the game." When the fan praised him, he responded, "People keep telling me that and I feel like a fraud because I just did the voice."
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been an extraordinary success, reaching the milestone of 3.3 million copies sold in one month since its release. The game is considered a strong contender for game of the year awards, and the studio is exploring adding new content, accessibility features, and a possible version for the Switch 2, which "could be interesting," according to director Guillaume Broche.
