Capcom: Revenue on Steam Skyrockets 61%
Capcom saw an impressive 61% increase in revenue generated by Steam, Valve's gaming platform. The Japanese company, known for franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, reached US$ 546 million in sales on the digital platform in the last twelve months. This remarkable growth highlights Capcom's successful strategy to expand its presence in the PC Gaming market, which continues to be a rising source of revenue.
Capcom's performance on Steam reflects the increasing importance of PCs as a gaming platform and the company's ability to adapt and optimize its titles for this audience.
Financial data analysis reveals that out of the total US$ 546 million in revenue on Steam, US$ 320 million came directly from game sales, while the remaining US$ 226 million was generated by DLCs (Downloadable Content) and microtransactions. This breakdown shows the importance of post-launch content for revenue sustainability in PC Gaming.
Capcom has consistently focused on simultaneous releases for PC and consoles, as well as successfully porting older titles. Franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter are particularly popular on Steam. The success of Monster Hunter: World (released in 2018) and Monster Hunter Rise (released in 2021 for PC) has significantly contributed to these numbers. Similarly, the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, along with Resident Evil Village, have boosted franchise sales.
Capcom's strategy on PC is an example of how Japanese publishers, who historically focused more on consoles, are adapting and reaping the benefits of a global and multi-platform market. Investments in optimization, support for features like Ray Tracing and DLSS/FSR, and direct communication with the PC community have been crucial to the company's success.
