Cancelled game reveals PlayStation 6 launch window
A hidden detail in a recent news story may have revealed more than expected about the future of Sony. The cancellation of a Blade Runner project, which was being developed by Supermassive Games, brought a possible clue about the release window of the PlayStation 6 — and it may be closer than imagined.
According to information released last week, the game was planned to arrive in 2027, with versions planned for both the current generation (PS5) and the next generation of consoles, including the PS6 and the new Xbox. This suggests that Sony is already working with this year as a concrete reference for the debut of the new platform.
The relationship between Supermassive Games and Sony strengthens this hypothesis. The developer belongs to Nordisk, which on its official site presents itself as "the Nordic home of PlayStation", highlighting its involvement with the brand from PlayStation 1 to PlayStation 5 — taking care of logistics, marketing, and sales. As a long-time partner of the company, it is reasonable to imagine that Nordisk is already involved behind the scenes of the next big release.
Another technical point that reinforces the preparation scenario is the supposed collaboration between Sony and AMD, responsible for the chips of the brand's consoles since the PS4. Industry sources claim that the development of the new PS6 chip is already at an advanced stage — although the company has not made any official announcements.
So far, Sony Interactive Entertainment has not officially commented on the PlayStation 6, but the combination of development schedules, historical partnerships, and hardware advancements point to 2027 as a possible turning point in the console generation.
