Borderlands 4: Pre-order and Editions Revealed with High Prices

Borderlands 4 is now available for pre-order, with a release date set for September 12th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A version for the Switch 2 is planned for late 2025. Gearbox Software and 2K Games have revealed three different editions of the game, with the most complete one priced at R$ 649.90, a value that is already sparking discussions about the cost-benefit of high-profile releases in the Brazilian market.

The pre-order offer includes the exclusive pack "Golden Glory", granting cosmetic skins for character, weapon, and drone. This practice is common in the industry to encourage early purchases, but the value of the editions may be a deciding factor for consumers.

The available editions are as follows:

• Standard Edition: Priced at R$ 379.90, it includes the base game and the pre-order bonus.
• Deluxe Edition: Sold for R$ 499.90, it adds the skin "Firehawk Fury" and the "Rewards Package Set", which promises four DLCs with new areas, missions, bosses, vehicles, and cosmetics.
• Super Deluxe Edition: The most expensive version, costing R$ 649.90, offers the "Ornate Order" pack with extra visuals and the "Vault Hunter Package", which includes two new Vault Hunters, new stories, additional regions, and more content for the ECHO-4.
   

2K Games stated that more details about the expansion content will be revealed in the coming weeks. The strategy of segmenting additional content into increasingly priced editions has been a constant in the industry, aiming to maximize revenue, but it requires that the intrinsic value of each pack justifies the investment. 

The inclusion of additional Vault Hunters in the most expensive pack may already be a point of contention for part of the fan base who prefer new characters to be included in the base game or in more affordable expansions. The success of sales will depend not only on the existing fan base, but also on the perceived value delivered by the editions.
