Blades of Fire will have a demo before its release in May
Blades of Fire, the new project by MercurySteam, will have a playable demo before the official release. The game arrives on May 22, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but players will be able to experience a sample of the title in the coming weeks — still with no defined date for the demo release.
The information was confirmed by MercurySteam itself, in partnership with 505 Games, who decided to respond to the " immense requests" received since the announcement of the title. The demo will serve as a first contact with the new intellectual property, marking an important point for the studio which, in recent years, became known for working with major third-party franchises.
"We received many requests from fans and players interested in testing the game before the release. We decided to fulfill this wish with a free demo, which will be released soon", declared the producer in a statement.
Blades of Fire marks the return of MercurySteam to the development of original titles, after collaborating with Nintendo on Metroid: Samus Returns (2017) and Metroid Dread (2021), the latter being an award-winning title with over 3 million copies sold to date. The studio is also responsible for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a franchise that helped revitalize the name of Konami in the 2010s.
So far, Blades of Fire has been presented as a third-person action RPG, focusing on melee combat and a dark fantasy medieval setting. 505 Games, who also published titles like Control, Ghostrunner, and Death Stranding (PC version), will be responsible for global distribution.
This is the first time MercurySteam has released a public demo of their own project before the premiere, suggesting a greater openness to community feedback and a clear attempt to capture attention in a market saturated with mid-sized releases.
More details about the demo content, such as available classes, duration, and progression, have not been disclosed yet. It is expected that new information will be revealed in the coming weeks, especially at pre-summer events like Summer Game Fest 2025, where 505 Games has already confirmed participation.
