Black Ops 7 solo: No pause, checkpoint and requiring constant connection
The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 today (November 14, 2025) brought negative surprises for solo players of the campaign. The new narrative mode of the beloved Black Ops series was criticized for basic issues in the single-player experience, with connection requirements and the absence of essential features.
The critical points of the solo experience are:
No Pause: The campaign of Call of Duty cannot be paused, even when the player is playing alone.
No Checkpoints: The game does not have a checkpoint system, which means that if the player leaves the match for any reason, they will have to start the mission from scratch.
Constant Online Connection: The campaign requires a full-time online connection, resulting in progress loss if the player goes offline suddenly (including game updates).
These peculiarities of the solo mode have frustrated players, who are also forced to go through the matchmaking and lobby creation process to start the campaign, even if the intention is to play alone. The campaign is clearly focused on a group experience (despite the lack of AI companions to fill vacant roles), but the release with these apparent flaws in the solo experience shocked the community.
Eurogamer is still in the process of reviewing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
