Black Flag actor threatened with legal action after talking about remake
The actor Matt Ryan, who voiced Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed Black Flag, revealed that he was threatened with legal action after comments about a supposed remake of the game. Rumors about a new version of Black Flag have been circulating since 2023, with the involvement of Ubisoft Singapore, the studio that worked on Skull and Bones.
The situation escalated in June 2024, when Ryan, in a conversation with a fan, made insinuations about the return of the game, stating that the fan might have to "finish the game again" and that there was "a reason" for it, but he couldn't give more details. The comments were recorded and shared on social media, which triggered a reaction from Ubisoft.
At a more recent convention, the actor explained that the company was not pleased with the information being leaked. Since then, Ryan has avoided confirming any details about the project, responding "I don't know" when asked about it. The threat of legal action shows how seriously Ubisoft deals with leaks, even if unofficial.
Ubisoft has not officially commented on the case. However, the fact that rumors about the remake have been circulating for some time, and now the company's reaction to the actor's leak, may indicate that production is indeed underway, and that the official announcement may be closer than imagined.
