Beta of Black Ops 7 is a multiplayer content-filled release
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 approaching, Activision has revealed the first details of its multiplayer component. In an announcement that promises to raise community expectations, the company detailed the vast content that will be available at launch, while also confirming the beta dates, which structure raises questions about the title's pre-order strategies.
The main controversy revolves around the beta schedule. Activision announced that the testing period will take place from October 2nd to October 8th. However, the initial phase, which spans three days (from October 2nd to October 5th), will be an exclusive early access for those who pre-ordered the game. The "open" beta, in fact, for all players, will only take place from October 5th to October 8th. The decision to segment initial access forces players to decide on an early purchase to secure the first days of testing, a practice that prioritizes sales over the unified community experience.
Despite the pre-order strategy, the multiplayer content itself looks promising. Activision confirmed that the game will launch with a total of 16 6v6 maps at launch, a number considered robust for the series. In addition, there will be two additional combat zones, the so-called "Skirmish," expanding the gameplay options. Players will also have access to a large amount of customizable equipment, loadouts, and a variety of game modes that, according to the company, promise an intense and competitive experience.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be officially released on November 14th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. An important piece of information that complicates the pre-order decision is the confirmation that the game will be available as a day one premiere on Xbox Game Pass. This means that Microsoft service subscribers will be able to access the full game on launch day at no additional cost, making the early purchase unnecessary for many.
The announcement of the multiplayer details of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 shows a game with substantial initial content that could revitalize interest in the franchise. However, Activision's strategy of segmenting the beta and including the title in Xbox Game Pass from launch day brings complexity to the release and may generate friction between the company and consumers.
