Battlefield 6 developers confirm larger maps planned

The developers of Battlefield 6 have confirmed that the final version of the FPS will include large maps, which were planned "all along". This positive information from Battlefield Studios comes after criticisms directed at the smaller maps present in the beta, and promises to deliver the colossal scale expected by the franchise.

The design director Salim Fasahat explained to PC Gamer Magazine in issue 415 that the choice of beta maps was intentional:

"They were intentionally smaller than the ones we know are coming. That's for a few reasons, but it was planned to get a better idea of some of the different modes, the scale they operate on, what kind of modes work with what types of maps, and a lot of good things came out of it."

Fasahat added that the team is "super excited to have people explore all of those maps" in the full game.

The success of Battlefield Studios' strategy can already be seen in the performance of Battlefield 6. The new shooter has achieved the best Metacritic score in years for the series, although it has not reached the levels of Battlefield 3. Reviews point out that the multiplayer is deep, tactical, and accessible, ensuring consistent player return.

The point of criticism lies in why the beta did not provide a real experience of the promised scale. Technical director Christian Buhl explained that the choice of smaller maps was also for logistical reasons:

"In a way, it's easier to test and focus on gun play when we're doing the smaller maps. So, those were the ones we started with. And also, technically, it's easier... you know, we've planned to launch with these maps all along, but this is the first time we're putting some of the really big maps in BF Labs."

Although the single player campaign of the game has generated little more than a "shrug", the multiplayer of Battlefield 6 is driving the franchise's revival. Fasahat and Buhl assure that the larger maps are on the way, confirming that the beta did not represent the full scale of the game.

The developers of Battlefield 6 have confirmed that the larger maps were planned "all along" for the launch, and the smaller maps in the beta were intentionally used for logistical and testing reasons. The FPS has already achieved the best Metacritic score in years for the series, with the multiplayer being tactical and immersive, despite the uninteresting single player mode.
