Ballistic Moon would have closed activities after Until Dawn remake.
Sources indicate that the studio was left with only the founders and a few employees
The studio Ballistic Moon, responsible for the remake of Until Dawn, seems to have closed its activities for good. According to internal sources, mass layoffs have occurred over the past few months, leaving only the founders and a reduced number of employees at the company.
The crisis began in September 2024, when about 40 employees were laid off. The final blow came in December, when the last developers were also let go, leading to the operational collapse of the studio.
End of the line: no support and no new projects
With the team reduced to a minimum, there is no longer support for updates or game fixes. "There is no longer a dedicated team for maintenance", said a source close to Ballistic Moon.
Before the closure, the studio tried to find new projects and investors, even discussing possible funding with Sony, but the negotiations did not progress. Without financial support, Ballistic Moon could not sustain its operations.
Unpaid overtime and layoffs after final effort
Despite the difficult situation, former employees reported that the work environment at Ballistic Moon was positive, although there were periods of long hours without adequate pay.
"There were weeks of work without payment", said a former developer, highlighting that the announcement of the layoffs came right after an intense crunch period to finalize the project.
So far, Ballistic Moon has not issued an official statement confirming its closure. The studio still exists legally, but without active projects or a sufficient team to continue with new games. If it secures new funding, the company could resume operations and rehire part of the team.
The remake of Until Dawn is still scheduled for release on PS5 and PC in 2025, but the uncertainty surrounding Ballistic Moon may impact post-launch support for the game.
