Balatro has its update postponed by the developer's decision

Fans of Balatro will have to wait longer for the 1.1 update. Solo developer LocalThunk announced the postponement of the patch, initially scheduled for this year. The decision, although frustrating for the community, comes from a desire of the creator to preserve his mental health and ensure the longevity of the game.

In a statement titled "I am slow," LocalThunk apologized for not meeting the deadline, admitting that he "probably shouldn't have announced any date." He revealed that, after the successful launch of the game, which had a rough start with rating agencies, he worked alone for about 12 hours a day on a balance patch and the mobile version, before deciding to slow down.

The developer revealed that the pressure to rush the update "felt terrible." He decided to go back to working as a "hobbyist," as he did at the beginning of the project. "I'm working slowly, but I like it this way," he said. LocalThunk acknowledged that he had never worked with deadlines on creative projects and realized that this is "important to [his] process."

LocalThunk's decision to delay the 1.1 update is an act of self-preservation and commitment to the Balatro community. His promise that the patch will be "released when it's ready" and his desire that "I don't want 1.1 to be the last update this game receives" show that he is focused on the future of the game, not on an artificial deadline. He assured players that, as a fan of his own game, “The Balatro player in me won't let me give up on developing this game.”
