Assassin's Creed Shadows: The future of Ubisoft is at stake

One of the giants of the gaming industry, Ubisoft is facing crucial challenges in 2025, with the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows being considered a watershed moment for the company. After years of decline, including significant drops in stock value and sales below expectations, Ubisoft's future may depend on the success of this new open-world title.

According to journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, the situation at Ubisoft is delicate. In his article, he highlights:

"Not everything is well in Paris, where Ubisoft has seen its stocks drop to a decade-low due to lower-than-expected sales and the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, originally planned for last year. Now, Ubisoft is considering several options."

Assassin's Creed Shadows, delayed to February 2025 after the poor performance of Star Wars Outlaws, will be a definitive test. Schreier states:

"If Shadows is a success, Ubisoft will gain more time and flexibility as the Guillemot family evaluates the company's future. But if it fails, we may see a drastic reorganization quickly, either through an acquisition or sale."

Among the potential suitors for Ubisoft are Tencent, which already has a stake in the company, and the Saudi group Savvy Games, which has declared interest in major acquisitions in 2025.

With a historical portfolio that includes franchises like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, Ubisoft now walks on unstable ground, and the performance of Shadows will be decisive for its trajectory in the gaming market.
