Assassin's Creed Shadows delayed again; new date announced

The Ubisoft announced another delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, originally scheduled for February 14, moving the release to March 20, 2025. This is the second delay of the title set in feudal Japan, which promises to be one of the biggest open-world experiences in the franchise.

The decision, according to Ubisoft, is part of a strategy to incorporate player feedback. In a statement, the company's CEO, Yves Guillemot, stated:

"We are all supporting the efforts of our teams to create the most ambitious chapter of Assassin’s Creed. We have decided to grant an additional month of development to incorporate player feedback obtained over the last three months and allow Shadows to reach its full potential, ending the fiscal year on a strong note."

The delay comes amid a strategic analysis by Ubisoft, which aims to reverse a sequence of below-expected releases, including Skull and Bones, Star Wars Outlaws, and the FPS XDefiant, which will be discontinued in June.

With a less saturated March than February, Shadows avoids direct competition with titles like Civilization 7, Monster Hunter Wilds, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Avowed, which were already scheduled for the same period.

The delay, according to Ubisoft, also reflects the commitment to the community:

"This additional time will allow the team to create the best launch conditions and further engage with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community."

The new date, March 20, will be crucial for the success of the game and Ubisoft's financial performance at the close of the fiscal year.
