After Netflix uses AI for Arcane cover, Riot sees it as "disrespectful"

If you are a fan of series and animations about games, you must be aware of the new season of Arcane, a series about League of Legends, which adapts the story of some of the characters that can be used in the game.

Netflix brought the adaptation to its platform, which was a great success in the first season and even won awards. This time we see a similar scenario, with Arcane once again being nominated for awards for its new season.

Everything was going well until it was noticed that the cover image of the series was altered by Netflix to increase its resolution. The problem with this is how it was done, which angered many fans.

It seems that Netflix chose to use AI art tools to expand the main images of Arcane to better fit the TV resolution, causing a severe reaction from fans online. In response, Riot Games' Music lead, Alex 'Astryx' Shahmiri, described the action as "disrespectful," confirming that the expanded art was removed from the loading screen of the League of Legends spinoff.

The image, depicting a manic Jinx embracing a frightened Vi, appears as an idle screen when you hover over the program listing. In an attempt to extend its resolution to fit the TV dimensions, Netflix seems to have used an AI art tool, which eagle-eyed League of Legends fans spotted on November 21.

So far, the cover has been removed, which definitely sparked a lot of discussion. Especially because Netflix has done this before, but not in the way we would like to see, which is to assist the user within the platform, but rather for artistic purposes.

Some time ago, Netflix completely fired a 2-year-old studio, with development stars like Rafael Grassetti who worked at Santa Monica on God Of War Ragnarok, and shortly after closing the studio, the company announced that it would invest more in AI to present new projects. This creates certainty that the gaming content that Netflix will present will no longer have personality, as the company must invest in this to meet the high demand for content.
