After leaks, changes were made in Dying Light: The Beast!

And what if I told you that Dying Light: The Beast is not exactly the third game in the franchise? Yes, in an interview with Games Industry during Gamescom 2024, Tymon Smektala, the game director, said that The Beast was just a spin-off of the second game, which was supposed to be a standalone DLC.

(For those of you who don't know, standalone is when the game's DLC is sold separately).

The DLC ended up becoming a full game after leaks, but originally it was just a DLC, and the unexpected event changed the plans, as the entire game story had been leaked on the internet. This could spoil the story for many when it was released.

“We knew that our most dedicated players, those who would be most interested in the DLC, probably had seen the leak and therefore had the game spoiled for them.” said Tymon.

Because of the situation, it was better to regroup and rethink what to do, which led the team to decide to gather parts of the DLC elements and develop new ideas to create a new game!

Techland also showed that the game is not the third title in the franchise, indicating that they have plans for the name "Dying Light 3".

“We already see the future of the series. The Beast was not part of the bigger plan, in fact“,he explains.

The director also revealed more about the gameplay time of the new game, which will be around 20 hours, stating that the game will be more compact and that the industry tends to follow this model.

Not only because big games can easily become repetitive, but there is still real life happening around many players, which can make it difficult for someone to finish a title like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the director mentioned.

With that in mind, perhaps this type of smaller game, where fewer people are needed for development, and yet will still have AAA quality, may become normal in the industry to comply not only with companies, but also with players' lives!
