Blizzard released patch 1.1.0 for Diablo IV last Tuesday (18), which brought several changes to the game, including a series of nerfs that did not sit well with a good portion of the community. In a livestream held on Friday (21), the game developers stated that they do not plan to release another patch like this.

"We know that reducing player power is never a good overall experience," said Associate Director Joe Piepiora.

Piepiora mentioned that the main intention of the developers was to limit the strength of builds that were too powerful and allowed people to progress too quickly through the game.

Diablo IV Game Director Joe Shely said the goal was to make the game more enjoyable.

"Players are at the heart of everything we're doing, and if they can't believe that as the game evolves it's going to get more fun, then we haven't accomplished our goals," he explained.

The developers said some adjustments would be made on Friday, based on the feedback from the past few days.

The next game update should also increase the maximum number of each elixir that players can carry to 99, as well as reduce the gold costs to respec skill points by about 40%.

The devs promised that major changes to Diablo IV will only be made at "predictable" times, such as at the start of new seasons.

"In the end, action RPGs are about offering power fantasy and, in a way, inviting players to break the game to some extent, finding fun within what we offer, doing crazy things, and we need to make sure we're not punishing players for doing just that," Shely said.

In the next update, classes like Barbarian and Mage are expected to receive changes, reducing the nerfs they received. An increase in monster density in Nightmare Dungeons and Helltides is also planned.

Another topic discussed was the experience gain between levels 50 and 100, which should be improved.

"We don't want to slow down the game," Shely said. "We want level 100 to be an achievement, not a chore."
