Ubisoft Is Investigating the Issue with Free 9th-gen Upgrade on PlayStation Consoles

With the new generation of consoles arriving, some publishers started offering a free upgrade to 9th-gen consoles for their cross-gen titles. Now, it seems people who have bought the physical version of cross-gen games from Ubisoft on PS4 can’t get their free copy on PS5 due to some unknown issues.

As we previously reported, some of the PS4 players who wanted to get their free digital copy of Watch Dogs Legion or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PS5 through the game’s disc were facing unknown issues that wouldn’t allow them to redeem the game. Now, it seems with the launch of Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Rainbow Six Siege on new consoles, more people are facing the same problem, especially in the UK.

In a recent tweet from Ubisoft Support, the French publisher assured fans that their free PS5 copy of the games they have already bought on PS4 will be secured and they all will be able to redeem their games once the problem is resolved. Although it’s already late enough to address these problems over three weeks after PS5’s launch, at least it could keep you hopeful that the issue is going to be gone sooner rather than later.

It’s yet to be known whether the problem is on Sony’s end or there’s something wrong with Ubisoft’s software. As far as we know, people haven’t reported similar issues on Xbox Series X|S yet.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Rainbow Six Siege, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are some of the big games that PS5 players can get access to them free if they already had them on a PS4 console. Later next year, Far Cry 6 will also join the list above as one of the most anticipated titles of 2021.
