The Abysmal XIII Remake Gets a Huge Overhaul in September

60fps on PS5, online multiplayer.

The complete and utter disaster that was the XIII remake released back in November 2020 is being overhauled by a new developer. Instead of Darguad, publisher Microids has entrusted French team Tower Five with changing the art style and implementing a number of new features. After more than a year's worth of work, the huge update will launch for free on 13th September 2022 for current PS4 owners.

One of the biggest problems with the remake was the art style, which did not stay true to the heavily stylised look of the PS2 classic. To rectify that, Tower Five has come up with a "refined art style". It's also improving enemy AI, changing the HUD, and revamping the overall sound design, according to a post on the XIII Steam page. Playing the game on PS5 via backwards compatibility will also grant you access to 60 frames-per-second support.

Tower Team will also be patching in online multiplayer for up to 13 players, which wasn't part of the 2020 remake. Only local multiplayer was included.

Arriving nearly two years after its original release, it's tough to judge whether this big update will have much of an impact on sales or the general consensus.

Still, though, Microids should be commended for not dropping the project completely after it released to extremely negative feedback.
