Sony Allegedly Funding Kojima Productions Silent Hill Game

The story that won't stop.

It’s the rumour that just won’t go away: a new Silent Hill game is apparently being bankrolled by Sony, and Death Stranding developer Kojima Productions is allegedly at the helm. Yesterday we reported that Konami is looking to reboot a number of its most popular properties, including Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania. As part of that report – first published by VGC, then later corroborated by Eurogamer – there was word of “multiple Silent Hill games” being “in development at various external development studios”. We already know one project is almost certainly being handled by Poland’s Bloober Team.

But according to Gematsu, citing “a publishing source”, one of the Silent Hill games is being helmed by Kojima Productions, with Sony footing the bill. It’s not the first time the cult horror franchise has been associated with PlayStation: last year there were strong connections between Japan Studio and the series, before the developer was unceremoniously shuttered. Ever since then, some fans felt the ongoing Abandoned saga was a Hideo Kojima ruse, which ultimately turned out to be false.

The originator the story, Andy Robinson of VGC, said earlier today that he hadn’t heard anything about Kojima Productions making a Silent Hill game: “All I can say is that the Japanese studio referenced in my reporting is not Kojima Productions. It's very possible there are multiple games going on within Japan, or that external studios are working together, but that's speculation from me. Sal [Romano] at Gematsu is a great journalist so I don't doubt his info.”

This story’s not going to go away, is it?
