Rocket League Ditches the Ball for Combative Knockout Bash Event

Ballsy.

Arguably the most important part of the Rocket League experience is its ball – after all, those little remote-controlled cars have very little to do unless it’s guiding a giant sphere into an enormous net. Knockout Bash, a new in-game event launching from 27th April through 10th May, is especially bold, then: there is no ball at all.

The goal is pretty simple: there’s an ever-shrinking safe zone and your objective is to knock your opponents out of it, as part of eight-player free-for-all skirmishes. You can double-jump into your adversaries to send them flying, but be aware that these attacks can be blocked. You can also grab and throw your foes, like you’re playing some kind of four-wheeled wrestling match.

You get three lives, and once they’re all gone it’s game over. As you play the event, you’ll unlock Golden Gift Baskets that include a bunch of in-game loot for you to customise your vehicles with. It all seems like a ton of fun to us: obviously it’s not going to replace the core mode, but we’re excited to see Psyonix experiment with different gameplay concepts.
