Random: Nintendo Shoots Down Fan-Made Pokémon FPS

To perhaps no one's surprise, developer Dragon's Pokémon first-person shooter has been shot down like a duck at a fairground game by The Pokémon Company. Videos, tweets, and footage have all been scrubbed from the internet — which you can see above, because the trailer is kaput.

You can read more about it in the story we ran last week:

The FPS genre is massively popular these days, as is the Pokémon franchise. So why not combine these two things? That's exactly what YouTuber and coder Dragon has done, thanks to the power of Unreal Engine.

"Is this a great idea? Did we do it anyway? Of course," muses Dragon. However, before you start typing out your smarty-pants "Here come Nintendo's legal ninjas!!" replies, it's worth noting that this game will never be made available to the public, free or otherwise – it's just a bit of fun.

In the video, Dragon explains how the game's visuals were created and even goes into detail on the AI attributes of the various Pokémon. The video ends with a real-life demonstration of the game.

All of this begs the question: could we see a legitimate Pokémon shooter in the future? Well, we've New Pokémon Snap, but we're not sure that counts.
