The Rockstar Games, developer of GTA 6, was targeted by protests after firing more than 30 employees in the last month. At a demonstration in front of Rockstar North's headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland, the protesters warned about the "human cost" of the recent actions of the company, criticizing the work culture in the industry.

The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) claimed that the layoffs were the "most ruthless union-busting act in the history of the UK gaming industry", motivated by "union activity".

The Rockstar challenged the claim, stating that the individuals let go were fired for "distributing and discussing confidential information on a public forum". However, Alex Marshall, president of the IWGB, claimed that the "public forum" was actually a private Discord server used to discuss working conditions.

During the protest in Edinburgh, a protester criticized the corporate nature of the company: "Rockstar is a machine that creates billions in value for its offshore shareholders in an industry rife with labor exploitation, unfair practice, and irrational working conditions." He urged the public to think about the human cost: "Grand Theft Auto 6 will make billions, that's not in doubt. Shareholders will get rich, fortunes will be made. But I want people to think about the human cost. The burnt-out people, the careers cut short, the lives in chaos."

A former employee, who worked in the QA department for almost four years before being dismissed, revealed that he hesitated to join the union for fear that he "might be putting a target on my back". He stated: "No one should ever feel this when organizing in their workplace."

The former developer claimed that those affected by the layoffs "had plans that relied on our continued employment at Rockstar", including family support, healthcare plans, and "plans that did not involve the potential of being deported from the country we call home." He cited the case of a developer who was "dismissed without ceremony during paternity leave, just nine days after the birth of his second child".

The layoffs reached the UK Parliament last week, where an MP questioned about support for the affected employees. The Leader of the House of Commons promised that "I will raise the issue with ministers and see what action, if any, can be taken to address this."

Facing allegations of "union-busting" and "labor exploitation", and with the financial success of GTA 6 secured, how does Rockstar Games plan to rebuild its corporate image and ensure working conditions that counter the criticism and intervention of the UK Parliament?
