Prison escape RPG Back to the Dawn receives release date for PS5
The announcement expands the reach of a journey that has already proven its worth in the market. Players using the Sony platform had to exercise patience, as the title has been running smoothly on the Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and on PCs via Steam and the Microsoft Store since last year. This delay in converting the code for the rival console is a bothersome downside, but seeing a good smaller-scale project reaching a new fan base makes up for the delay, providing a robust option for those who appreciate deep plots and well-crafted survival mechanics.
The team at developer Metal Head Games, working in collaboration with publishers Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Spiral Up Games, confirmed that the official debut on the new hardware is scheduled for October 22, 2026. Along with the date announcement, the companies released a new promotional trailer to introduce newcomers.
The narrative of Back to the Dawn immerses players in the behind-the-scenes of a fictional metropolis inhabited by anthropomorphic animals and dominated by destructive systemic corruption. As a fearless reporter or incisive detective, the player finds themselves unjustly imprisoned in a maximum-security prison complex. The main objective is to devise a meticulous escape plan while gathering testimonies, sabotaging systems, and forging strategic alliances with other inmates to expose the truth.
This survival premise in a hostile environment gains strength due to the freedom of approach offered by roleplaying mechanics, where every choice shapes the protagonist's destiny and the outcome of the city itself. It's the sort of intelligent and original proposal that is often missing from major commercial catalogs, proving that good gameplay ideas and charismatic artistic direction are far more valuable than inflated visual budgets.
