Pokémon GO's Revenue Smashes Past $6 Billion

That's $1 billion a year.

Pokémon GO just can't stop catching success! According to data from Sensor Tower, the augmented reality app has surpassed $6 billion in lifetime player spending across the world. If you do the maths quick, the game launched back in 2016, which means Pokémon GO has continued to make $1 billion a year.

The Pokémon Company and Niantic's game now joins the likes of PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, Candy Crush Saga, and Clash of Clans, all of which have also surpassed this Mamoswine-sized figure.

Breaking it down even more, in Q1 2022, Pokémon GO was still the 11th-highest mobile game for player spending, picking up $198.2 million, and continues to be the highest-grossing geolocation AR game in the world in the last quarter. The next two highest — Dragon quest Walk and Jurassic World Alive — managed less than half of that.

The game continues to dominate in the US and Japan, where 36.6% and 32.6% of revenue for the game has been accumulated respectively. Interestingly, the third most popular country in terms of sales is Germany, where 5.2% of revenue has come from. And while the US also tops downloads worldwide, Brazil and India rank second and third, and more players have downloaded the game from Google Plan and Apple's App Store.

So it seems like Pokémon GO isn't GOing anywhere. Tomorrow, the next Spotlight hour kicks off at 6pm - 7pm in your timezone, and you'll be able to sniff out a lot more Nosepass than usual.

Are you surprised by the game's continued success?
