The operation is led by Serrena Iyer, an expert who previously headed the strategy department at DreamWorks Animation. The operation is still in its initial structuring phase, searching the market for professionals like producers, directors, software engineers, and artists specialized in digital art who are willing to work alongside algorithms.

According to information discovered through various recent job offers and shared by the outlet Automaton Media, the internal foundation took place in March 2026. The streaming giant has a declared purpose of utilizing generative artificial intelligence in the creation of new productions. Interestingly, Netflix chose to keep the project completely confidential and has not yet made any public announcement to the press or subscribers about this new technological direction.

In light of the inevitable concerns from the public and the artistic community regarding the advancement of these automated tools, the company hurried to ease the worries of more traditionalists. The company assures that Netflix Animation Studios, the division responsible for projects like KPop Demon Hunters and other films in the catalog, will continue using “traditional animation techniques” and is entirely separate from this initiative focused on generative AI. This is an attempt to shield the main productions, but it clearly indicates where the company's leadership sees the future of cost reduction in new projects.
